Orioles Hire Former Cubs Executive Jared Banner as New General Manager
Banner will oversee player development and day-to-day baseball operations as the Orioles add a veteran executive with 15 years of experience, the team said.
On Monday, the Baltimore Orioles hired Chicago Cubs assistant general manager Jared Banner as their new general manager, with an introductory press conference scheduled for next Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Banner brings over 15 years of baseball operations experience, having served as an executive for the Cubs, New York Mets, and Boston Red Sox, where he spent 11 years gaining familiarity with the American League East.
President of Baseball Operations Mike Elias described Banner as a "perfect fit to grow, evolve and improve the Orioles," noting he will manage day-to-day player development and coaching efforts.
With Dana Brown's recent departure in Houston, Banner becomes the only Black general manager in Major League Baseball, joining the team tasked with improving the franchise after a 79-82 finish in 2026.
Banner stated he aims to "build upon the foundation" Elias established to bring championships back to Baltimore, as the organization prioritizes development building toward 2027 and beyond.
