Nurse Asks Oilers to Trade Him: Reports
Darnell Nurse reportedly gave the Oilers a short list of 3 to 5 teams he would accept in a trade after a down season.
Last week, Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse requested a trade, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and Mark Spector, providing the organization with a short list of teams he would accept.
Nurse has spent his entire 12-year NHL career in Edmonton since the 2013 draft, signing an eight-year, $74 million extension in 2021 that left him feeling it was time to move on.
The 31-year-old struggled this season with a minus-12 rating and 24 points, his fewest since 2016-17, and failed to record a single point during Edmonton's first-round exit against the Anaheim Ducks in the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
General manager Stan Bowman is currently rebuilding after firing coach Kris Knoblauch last month, facing pressure to reshape the roster while managing McDavid's two-year extension at $12.5 million.
Nurse carries a $9.25 million annual salary cap hit through four remaining contract seasons, while McDavid's flexibility at $12.5 million signals he needs to see championship potential before committing long-term to Edmonton.
