F1 Reveals 2027 Calendar as Monaco Joins Expanded Sprint Schedule
F1 said sprint weekends drew 12% higher viewership and 82% of attendees said the format adds value to their ticket.
Formula 1 formally announced the 2027 World Championship calendar, featuring 24 grands prix across five continents with an expanded sprint programme increasing sprint races from six to 10.
Sprint events are in high demand because they increase ticket sales; Silverstone officials believe holding a sprint this year helped attract 64,000 more fans to the British Grand Prix.
New sprint events will debut in Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Abu Dhabi, and Monaco, though the Monaco inclusion raises questions given the historic street circuit's almost impossible overtaking conditions.
The 2027 season is scheduled to start in Bahrain on 12-14 March, but both that event and Saudi Arabia remain in doubt while the conflict in the Middle East continues.
FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem stated the 2027 calendar is "a strong reflection of the global appeal and continued growth of our sport," combining tradition with innovation across five continents.
