Repeated threats shut down some schools in Coquitlam, B.C.
Eight schools in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam received phoned threats, prompting hold-and-secure lockdowns; police found threats not credible but continue investigating.
On February 4, 2026, Coquitlam RCMP responded to alleged phoned threats to multiple schools in the Coquitlam School District, receiving the first report around 12:25 p.m. and alerting the public just before 1 p.m.
Police said earlier reports on Jan. 27 and Jan. 28 preceded Wednesday's incidents, with RCMP investigating possible links between calls to schools in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.
Police reported that eight schools and local businesses in the area received threats on Wednesday, with the district's assistant director saying the threats were not credible.
Clearing the sites, authorities lifted hold-and-secures while maintaining an on-scene presence; all affected sites were safely cleared with students released at regularly scheduled dismissal times.
Inspector Veronica Fox said RCMP will seek the origins of the phone calls and engage youth officers with students, and police found the threats to be not credible as investigations continue.
