Rep. Al Green Files Articles of Impeachment Against President Donald Trump
Green accuses Trump of using immigration agencies as unaccountable forces and cites four civilian deaths in the renewed impeachment push.
- On Monday, Representative Al Green introduced articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, alleging abuse of power regarding United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection operations.
- Green has repeatedly pursued impeachment against Trump during his tenure in the House. The House previously rejected a 2025 effort to launch an inquiry, voting 344-79 to block the measure.
- The articles allege Trump transformed ICE and CBP into "unaccountable paramilitary police forces" that terrorize communities. The filing names four individuals killed by the agencies in 2026: Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, and Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero.
- Legal advocacy group Free Speech For People supports the measure, citing violations of the First, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendments. More than 1.1 million people have signed the organization's petition urging Congress to move forward with impeachment proceedings.
- Under the Constitution, the House brings articles of impeachment, which function as charges against a federal official. If a simple majority of the House approves the articles, the official is impeached; the Senate then conducts the trial.
