Terry Luttrell of REO Speedwagon Injured in Car Accident After Falling Asleep at the Wheel
ILLINOIS, JUN 17 – Luttrell fell asleep driving after a late afterparty following the farewell concert, suffering a cracked sternum and minor injuries while recuperating in hospital, officials said.
Terry Luttrell, former REO Speedwagon lead vocalist, was injured in a car accident on June 15 while driving southbound on Interstate 57 near Arcola, Illinois.
The accident happened after Luttrell fell asleep at the wheel following a one-off reunion concert held the night before at the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois.
Luttrell rolled his car, which was totaled, woke up inside a cocoon of deployed airbags, suffered a cracked sternum, and experienced back and neck pain but was able to get out of the vehicle unaided.
He told the News-Gazette on June 17 that the accident occurred suddenly, and explained that the deployment of the airbag caused a minor sternum injury. He also mentioned that he anticipates staying in the hospital for several days to undergo rehabilitation.
Luttrell is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Urbana and has no additional injuries reported, indicating that his condition remains stable despite the serious nature of the accident.
