Louvre: 'We want to find a lasting solution to overcrowding'
The museum's director, Laurence des Cars, and the chief architect of France's historic monuments, François Chatillon, speak to Le Monde about the architectural competition to renovate the world's most-visited museum.

For the redesign of the world-famous Louvre in Paris, proposals from all over the world are sought. France's Minister of Culture Rachida Dati announced on X that an international architectural competition was launched. During the extensive renovation, the most visited museum in the world will receive a new entrance - and his visitor favorite, the oil painting "Mona Lisa" by Leonardo da Vinci, will immediately have its own hall.
This announcement follows the project to renovate the museum announced by Emmanuel Macron in January.
Emmanuel Macron announced on January 28th a vast plan to adapt the Louvre, the most visited museum in the world, which suffers from old age. An estimated project of 700 million and one billion euros.
