Remains of missing Alabama toddler found; mother and grandfather charged
- Last week, the Fayette County Sheriff's Office discovered human remains believed to be those of Kahleb Collins, a one-year-old toddler, in a burn pile at his family's Alabama home.
- Kahleb was reported missing by his mother after a December 2024 car crash that killed the father and an unrestrained two-year-old child.
- Authorities suspect Kahleb passed away sometime in the early fall of 2024, with allegations stating that his father inflicted physical abuse on him, while his mother was aware of the mistreatment and the location where his body was kept.
- In July, Steven Collins sent images to Bailey depicting a boy with visible injuries suspended by a rope, as well as photos showing the same child bruised on the floor, while the mother reported that Kahleb's body was stored in a bag inside a shed.
- Authorities have charged Kahleb's mother, Wendy Bailey, and his grandfather, John Elton Bailey. Fayette County Sheriff Byron Yerby expressed that while finding Kahleb’s remains provides some closure, it also serves as a grave reminder of the ongoing need to safeguard children.
