On Monday 1 December, the European Commission stated that, under a law adopted in 2023, craftsmen such as glass blowers, potters, cutlery or jewellers could register the names of their products and know-how in a new system of geographical indications.

As of today, registration of craft and industrial products for geographical indication protection is available in the EU. This type of protection is now also possible for non-food products, which marks the completion of the establishment of the internal market in the field of geographical indications. In Slovenia, the competent authority for registration is the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Intellectual Property.
