With real wages continuing to decline, consumers are said to be increasingly frugal, but those working for small and medium-sized businesses and pensioners, who are struggling to raise wages, are finding it particularly tough. Food, in particular, is a difficult area to cut spending on.
The rise was driven by 1.4 per cent increases in the registered private sector, 1.1 per cent in the public sector and 5.7 per cent in the unregistered private sector.
During the ninth month of the year, nominal increases of 1.4 per cent were recorded in the registered private sector, 1.1 per cent in the public sector and 5.7 per cent in the informal sector.
