Record set for National Trust confirmed as beloved sites go Instagram friendly
The charity said the rise was driven by 18- to 25-year-olds, with 40,200 new members the previous year and free-entry events ahead.
On Monday, the National Trust reported a record 50,600 new young members aged 18 to 25 joined between March 2025 and February 2026, marking a 26% year-on-year increase.
This follows a previous record of 40,200 new young members in the prior year, demonstrating sustained growth in youth engagement with the organization's conservation mission.
According to the charity's data, Stourhead in Wiltshire, Calke Abbey in Derbyshire, and Attingham Park, near Shrewsbury, were the three most popular sites visited by young members last year.
Starting Friday, the Heritage Open Days festival continues until September 20, offering free entry to many National Trust sites to encourage public engagement with heritage during the peak period.
National Trust Chairman Rene Olivieri called the surge "good news for nature," while collections officer Claudia Hayes noted engaging youth now ensures they "will be more likely to care for these things in future.
