Ukraine Inflicted Over 35,000 Russian Casualties in March, Zelenskyy Says
Zelenskyy said drone strikes alone caused 33,988 Russian troops to be killed or wounded in March.
On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Russian forces suffered more than 35,000 casualties in March, marking the highest monthly loss levels since the invasion began.
Zelenskyy revealed 33,988 casualties resulted from drone strikes alone, while artillery fire eliminated an additional 1,363 troops and destroyed 274 Russian air defense systems.
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi noted favorable weather triggered intensified Russian offensive operations, while the president praised effective drone units including the "Birds" of Madyar and "Phoenix."
Meanwhile, Russia's presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov demanded a Ukrainian withdrawal from Donbas to halt operations, stating "This has to be done," though peace talks remain paused amid an Iran conflict.
Russia plans to recruit an additional 409,000 soldiers in 2026, according to Syrskyi, signaling continued efforts to bolster its forces despite the recent surge in March casualties.
The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, stated that in March 2026, Russia had suffered the greatest losses since the outbreak of the full-scale war, with more than 35,000 occupiers killed or seriously injured on the battlefield.
