Michiganders Slammed by Historic Political ad Spend Ready for Midterms to End
AdImpact says more than $11 billion has aired or been reserved nationwide, with nearly $192 million tracked in Michigan’s Senate race.
Ahead of Election Day on November 3, Michigan is at the center of a historic political advertising blitz, with nearly $192 million spent or reserved for the U.S. Senate race as of October 12.
Nationwide political ad spending has reached a record $11.6 billion this election cycle, driven by high-stakes contests for the U.S. Senate and House where control of Congress hangs in the balance.
Oakland University political science professor Dave Dulio noted that in fewer competitive races, massive spending creates a "multiplier effect," while 24-year-old Cunningham said ads left her feeling "almost uncomfortable watching them."
Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed released sharp attack ads to secure support, though resident Nic Vantil described the constant messaging as "almost just white noise at this point."
While early in-person voting ends Sunday, Michiganders head to the polls on November 3, leaving experts like Dulio skeptical about whether last-minute spending can sway the few remaining undecided voters.
