Area children had a chance to show off their fishing skills at Fox Island Saturday, July 19, when the Washington Township Police Department and Logan County Family & Children First Council teamed up together to offer a day of fishing. A total of 39 youths plus numerous parents and grandparents attended this event. William Sandal (15 years old) is in his first season at Båtsfjordbruket, where he has a summer job. He wants to focus on the fishing industry – and plans to pursue a career in fishing and trapping after middle school.
The youth fishing program has never been as popular as it is this year. Over 800 people have signed up for the program. Mali Elise Eriksen (19) is one of those who is trying her hand at fishing this summer.
In Troms County, 41 people have registered for the youth fishing scheme.
– It is important to give young people the chance to try their hand at the sea.
