Record funding package announced for Britain's winter athletes

  • On Tuesday, UK Sport announced a record £33 million funding package for British Olympic and Paralympic winter athletes ahead of the Alpes 2030 Games, reflecting unprecedented success at Milan-Cortina.
  • Britain's record-equaling five medals at the Milan-Cortina Games prompted increased support, marking the nation's most successful Winter Olympic performance ever. Funding rose from around £30 million in the previous cycle.
  • Bobsleigh and skeleton programmes will receive £10 million, while curling programmes receive £6.5m and £1.9m respectively. A further £12.5 million is ringfenced for Snowsport athletes.
  • UK Sport will commission an independent governance review of GB Snowsport, opting to manage the ringfenced investment through an alternative delivery model. GB Snowsport expressed disappointment at the decision.
  • The new delivery model will be confirmed later this year, allowing funding to flow seamlessly into the Alpes 2030 cycle. Sport Org, a specialist performance delivery organisation, will drive efficiencies across programmes.
