Defender Rüdiger 'Not Done Here' as He Signs 1-Year Contract Extension at Real Madrid
The German defender stayed after injuries limited him to 26 appearances last season and rival offers reportedly came from Saudi clubs.
On Tuesday, Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger signed a one-year contract extension, keeping the 33-year-old German at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2027.
Rudiger was nearing the end of his four-year deal and faced rival offers from Saudi Arabia as Real endured a disappointing 2025-26 season, missing the LaLiga title.
During his tenure, the defender has made 182 appearances and won eight trophies, including the Champions League, though injuries limited him to 26 games last season.
Keeping Rudiger aligns with Real president Florentino Perez's campaign promise to strengthen defense; newly reappointed manager Jose Mourinho brought in Marc Cucurella from Chelsea on Monday.
"Renewing my journey with Real Madrid is a proud moment," Rudiger said in an Instagram post, describing the extension as a commitment to turning things around with teammates.
Antonio Rüdiger remains a royal for the time being. The German national player has extended his contract with Real Madrid for another year, where star coach José Mourinho is waiting.
