Readers respond: Improve security for kids, not leaders

Summary by The Oregonian
Mayor Ted Wheeler and the city council budgeted an extra $661,000 for “executive protection team” security, (“Portland will pay more than $600,000 for 3 new armed security agents at City Hall,” Jan. 25). I pray for the school children who daily run the gauntlet of encampments on Southeast Powell Boulevard. Wheeler is not a candidate for “Profiles in Courage.” We must expect more from our leader.
