RCR Announces New Lifts for Fernie, Kimberley, Kicking Horse Resorts
The upgrades will replace aging lifts and cut ride times by almost 50% at Fernie, while more than doubling base-area capacity at Kicking Horse.
- On Monday, May 11, 2026, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies announced plans to install four new chairlifts at Fernie Alpine Resort , Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, and Kimberley Alpine Resort between 2026 and 2027.
- John Shea, President & Chief Resort Officer at RCR, called the upgrades a 'major investment in our BC Resorts,' while Senior Vice President of Resort Experience Matt Mosteller emphasized modernizing infrastructure and improving guest experiences.
- In spring 2026, Kimberley Alpine Resort will install the Tamarack Quad Chair, while Fernie Alpine Resort will replace the Elk Quad Chair with the high-speed detachable Elk Express in the winter of 2026/27.
- Kicking Horse will receive the high-speed Pioneer Express in 2027, which RCR says will 'more than double' base area lift capacity, while the new Cedar Bowl Express at Fernie will simplify upper-mountain access.
- Beyond lift construction, RCR is preparing to release new residential lots at Timberlanding 3 at Fernie later this year, while the final phase of the Cedar Mountain Homes project at Kicking Horse nears completion.
