- Personnel from 5 Wing Goose Bay discovered the partially buried, grey or silver object near a vacant property, prompting the Royal Canadian Navy's Fleet Diving Unit to contact the RCMP.
- Trevor Ackland with the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Halifax said a disposal team is en route, noting, "The team must transport specialized equipment required for disposal operations, including explosives."
- Officials stated there is no risk to public safety, and police continue monitoring the site while notifying nearby residents to stay away from the area.
- This marks at least the second time this year that possible munitions have been found in Newfoundland and Labrador, as Cpl. Donaghey noted the province's extensive military history where "historic military munition" finds occur.
