Raye Wins Mercury Music Prize
Raye’s second album won after the singer entered the night as the favourite, with the Mercury Prize recognizing the year’s best album in the UK and Ireland.
On Thursday, singer-songwriter Raye won the 2026 Mercury Prize for her second album, This Music May Contain Hope, at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle Upon Tyne.
The annual award honors the best album by a UK or Ireland artist; Raye secured the win over contenders including Sir Paul McCartney, Olivia Dean, and Dove Ellis.
Her ambitious 70-minute, 17-song album debuted at Number One and earned the 28-year-old artist a trophy plus nearly £25,000 in prize money.
Performers at the ceremony included Suede and Jade, though nominees McCartney and Dave did not attend; organizers showed video montages of their work instead.
Newcastle hosted the ceremony for the second consecutive year, continuing a tradition that previously recognized Sam Fender in 2025 and Little Simz in 2022.
