Erasmus Fires Back at All Blacks' 'Slow Game' Claims Ahead of Ellis Park Test
Erasmus said the All Blacks are using mind games as South Africa waits on injury checks for Siya Kolisi and Ox Nche before the Ellis Park test.
On Monday, Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus disputed claims from the touring All Blacks that South African teams deliberately slow down game tempo ahead of Saturday's test match at Ellis Park.
The All Blacks have pushed a narrative regarding slowed game speed, though World Rugby's new protocol banning pre-match meetings between coaches and referees has fueled communication gaps and media-led criticism.
Technical adviser Jaco Peyper clarified that teams have 30 seconds to form a set-piece after the referee marks the spot, stating, "You can do whatever you want inside those 30 seconds."
Erasmus dismissed the accusations as "mind games" while confirming the team awaits clearance for captain Siya Kolisi and prop Ox Nche, both sidelined with minor injuries ahead of Saturday's fixture.
Reflecting on last September's tests, Erasmus noted New Zealand won 24-17 in Auckland before South Africa secured a record 43-10 victory in Wellington, illustrating the competitive history between rivals.
