- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched Surya, the first of five Indian Navy Fleet Support Ships, at Hindustan Shipyard Limited in Visakhapatnam.
- Singh laid the keel for the fifth Fleet Support Ship and inaugurated an upgraded slipway and a 300-tonne Goliath crane.
- The upgraded facilities can build and launch vessels weighing up to 45,000 deadweight tonnes.
- The 43,500-tonne ships will carry fuel, water, ammunition and supplies, helping Navy warships remain at sea longer.
