RAF jets shoot down drones heading towards Jordan and Bahrain
RAF Typhoons destroyed two hostile drones targeting Jordan and Bahrain while the UK deployed extra aviation assets and airspace experts to support Gulf allies, the Ministry of Defence said.
- RAF Typhoon jets scrambled overnight to take out an uncrewed aerial system over Jordan and intercept a drone bound for Bahrain, the Ministry of Defence said as the UK began defensive sorties supporting the United Arab Emirates.
- To support those sorties, the UK deployed additional air operations experts to the Gulf, sent Wildcat and Merlin helicopters to Cyprus, and authorised US use of RAF Fairford for defensive missions.
- The government has evacuated 37,000 British nationals since the war began, with three flights from Muscat, Oman, while dependents were withdrawn from the British Embassy in Abu Dhabi and British Embassy in Dubai.
