Radical NASA Propulsion Concept Could Reach Interstellar Space in Under 5 Years
Proposed 'pellet-beam' propulsion system could get us to interstellar space in 5 years. The concept was awarded an early-stage US$175,000 NASA grant earlier this year. It would use lasers to propel a spacecraft into interstellar space. The spacecraft orbiting Earth would then shoot a beam of tiny particles at the interstellar spacecraft.
