Quebec police ethics commissioner opens file into Montréal-Nord racism allegations
Quebec's police ethics commissioner began investigating claims of racist misconduct by Montreal police officers on June 26 following a request from Domestic Security Minister Ian Lafrenière.
Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher reported on June 12 that 16 officers were removed from patrol duties due to allegations of discriminatory behavior, with two officers suspended and under criminal investigation.
The Red Coalition, an anti-racial profiling group, filed a complaint to the ethics commissioner 10 days before Lafrenière's request for an investigation.
The ethics commissioner closed the Red Coalition's file after Lafrenière's request, and the minister plans to observe the investigation results before commenting further.
The Quebec Police Ethics Commissioner has opened an investigation into allegations of racist behavior by officers in the multicultural district of Montréal-Nord.
