8 August: Scotland sees first reports of invasive, non-native pink salmon in 2025 – Fisheries Management Scotland
Invasive non-native pink salmon have been reported in four sites in Scotland so far this summer, with fish spotted in the River Dee, River Spey and Kyle of Sutherland and fish captured in the lower Tweed at Berwick Upon Tweed and the River Thurso. As we approach mid-August, sightings and captures could ramp up further. Fisheries Management Scotland, on behalf of the Pink Salmon Task Group is urging the public to continue to be on the look-out for
The Government of Quebec is concerned about the presence of pink salmon in Quebec. A pink salmon was caught this summer in Lower North Shore and the announcement was made by the Government of Quebec, which asks fishermen to report any catches or observations. The Department states in its opinion that pink salmon is a rapidly expanding invasive aquatic species that is feared to be established in Quebec over the next few years.
