Quarterly payments of Ottawa’s boosted grocery and essentials benefit start today
Eligible households will get a 25% boost for five years after a one-time June advance, with annual payments ranging from a few hundred dollars to more than $1,000.
On Friday, OTTAWA began distributing quarterly payments for the Canada Grocery Benefit, providing increased financial support to Eligible Canadians starting today.
Prime Minister Mark Carney proposed the affordability measure in January to help Canadians cope with economic uncertainty and rising essentials costs.
Replacing the GST and HST credit, the benefit features a 25 per cent boost scheduled for the next five years.
Annual benefit amounts range from a few hundred dollars to more than a thousand dollars, depending on marital status and number of children.
Before quarterly payments began, Eligible households received a one-time payment in early June worth 50 per cent of the annual benefit value.
