Quarterback C.J. Carr returns to No. 4 Notre Dame trying to ignore the hype while producing results
Carr started all 12 games last season and threw 24 touchdowns as Notre Dame tries to build chemistry and improve after missing the playoff.
Notre Dame quarterback Carr returns for his junior season as a tested veteran after leading the Fighting Irish to 10 straight wins following an 0-2 start in his debut year.
Carr possesses deep football intelligence rooted in his lineage; his father, Jason, played at Michigan, and his grandfather, Lloyd, was the Wolverines' longtime head coach. Marcus Freeman said this background gives Carr a "leg up" on the competition.
Last season, Carr threw for 2,741 yards and 24 touchdowns while steadying the Fighting Irish offense. He now builds chemistry with returning receivers Jordan Faison and Jaden Greathouse, joined by Ohio State transfers Mylan Graham and Quincy Porter.
Receiver Jaden Greathouse said Carr has "taken a step up" in his development, noting his leadership has progressed through spring and summer. This growth positions the fourth-ranked Fighting Irish to pursue a national championship.
Ignoring social media "noise," which Carr says accounts for 90% of external pressure, the quarterback remains focused on preparation. The Fighting Irish open their schedule Sept. 6 against Wisconsin at Lambeau Field.
