- On Monday, Qatar announced investments via the Qatar Fund For Development to improve Lebanon's electricity, support its armed forces, and aid refugee returns after meetings in Beirut with Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and President Joseph Aoun.
- Lebanon's state electricity company has drained about $40,000,000,000 over decades amid mismanagement and a historic fiscal crisis since late 2019, forcing reliance on costly private generators.
- The package includes a $40,000,000 grant and $360,000,000 for projects plus $20,000,000 initial return funding for 100,000 Syrian refugees with housing and three months' support.
- The funding could benefit 1,500,000 people by expanding access to electricity as Lebanon hosts an estimated 1,500,000 refugees among its 6,000,000 population.
- Qatar had tried before to fix Lebanon's power system, and the pledge comes as Lebanon improves Gulf ties, Hezbollah weakens after a 14-month war, and half a million returns occurred earlier this month in 2025.
