The Public Prosecutor's Office requested this Monday the conviction for murder of the PSP agent who killed Odair Moniz, in the neighborhood of Cova da Moura, Amadora, in October 2024, considering that the agent did not act in self-defence.
The chief inspector of the Judicial Police (PJ), who coordinated the investigation into the death of Odair Moniz, assured today that the cameras do not show any knife and that she was not informed of the existence of a dagger when she arrived at the scene. The inspector further stated that the officers had shown fear and a less favourable attitude towards the suspect, considering that they were at a disadvantage in the situation
So far, only the agent has said he had seen Odair wield a knife, which served as a justification for shooting. Chief Inspector noted that the knife was never mentioned when she went to the scene.
Throughout the trial, witnesses testified that Odair did not have any knife in his hand when he was shot by officer Bruno Pinto, who in turn claimed that he believed Odair was threatening him with a knife when he fired.
