Postal company bpost will not have to pay a fine for manipulating a multi-million dollar contract to distribute newspapers. This has been decided by the Belgian Competition Authority. Newspaper publisher Mediahuis will receive a fine of €7.8 million, and DPG Media a fine of €3.8 million. Two former bpost employees will receive a reduced fine of €6,300. The incidents date back to 2021, but a decision has been pending until now.
Media groups DPG Media and Mediahuis have been fined millions in Belgium for rigging the tender process for a newspaper concession. The Belgian groups, which also own many Dutch media outlets, must pay €3.8 million and €7.8 million, respectively, to the Belgian Competition Authority.
