Donald Glover Developing A "PUBG" TV Series
Donald Glover will direct, star, write and executive produce the live-action adaptation, which expands Netflix’s growing slate of video game projects.
- On Thursday, Netflix and publisher Krafton announced a live-action series based on the battle royale game "PUBG", with Donald Glover set to direct, write, executive produce, and star.
- Originally titled "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds", the game has retained a massive player base over the past nine years, averaging more than 300,000 concurrent players on Steam monthly.
- Stephen Glover will write and executive produce alongside his brother, with additional producers including Michael Schaefer for Neon TV, Fam Udeorji for Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for Krafton's LV3H.
- This project joins Netflix's growing slate of video game adaptations, including "Assassin's Creed", "Gears of War", and animated shows "Splinter Cell: Deathwatch" and "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners".
- Adapting the game presents unique challenges, as "PUBG" lacks the direct narrative found in titles like "The Last of Us", though Hollywood is experiencing a broader boom in successful video game adaptations.
