Officers at Windsor Castle investigated over allegations of sleeping on duty
Up to 30 Metropolitan Police officers are being investigated after concerns they left posts unattended and slept on duty, officials said.
Metropolitan Police's Directorate of Professional Standards has launched an urgent investigation into armed officers protecting Royalty at Windsor Castle following concerns regarding their conduct on protective duties.
Up to 30 officers from the Royalty and Specialist Protection team are under investigation for allegedly leaving posts unattended and sleeping while on duty, according to The Sun.
The Royal Household, including King Charles III, has been made aware of the investigation as Windsor has faced security threats including an intruder last June and a crossbow-wielding man on Christmas Day.
Investigators from the DPS are assessing whether any officers under investigation should be placed on restricted duties, with a decision expected before the end of next week.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed and concluded that the Met will handle the matter locally through an internal investigation into the alleged behavior.
