Ignaz Eschgäller was born on 10 February 1935 in Merano and ordained a priest on 19 March 1961 in Merano. Between 1961 and 1972 he worked as a co-operator in Tiers, Tisens, Margreid, Steinegg, Tramin and St. Jakob/Bolzano. In 1972 Eschgäller became a priest in Tall, where he worked for 14 years.
