Dates have officially been set for France's 2027 presidential election. With less than a year to go, the country is already gearing up for Emmanuel Macron's successor. FRANCE 24 English and French teamed up to meet voters in the run-up to the crucial poll.
The first round of the next presidential election will take place on 18 April 2027 and the second round on 2 May, the day after the highly symbolic day of 1 May. Although this calendar meets constitutional requirements, it raises several questions.

The choice of dates did not fail to make the reaction, but the government calls for "the intelligence of the French" to understand the situation.
Faced with criticism, the government spokesman Maud Bregeon assures that the rules of republican silence will be respected for the second round set for May 2, 2027. The first round will take place on April 18th.
The second round of the presidential elections will take place on 2 May, the day after Labour Day, the government spokesman said on Wednesday.
