Iowa DNR to Begin Annual Spring Burning

The Department of Natural Resources has postponed the elk research project in northwest Minnesota due to scheduling delays and unfavorable weather conditions.
The project, originally set for January 2025, is now rescheduled for the winters of 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, as there is currently no snowpack and above-average temperatures are expected.
Researchers will capture 25 adult cows and up to 15 adult bulls each winter and fit them with GPS collars to monitor herd health and locations.
Funding for the project comes from the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
