On Saturday, Delhi Police detained several members of the All India Students' Association near Jantar Mantar as protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar entered a second consecutive day.
Protesters mobilized after The Indian Express reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi formally objected 14 times in 10 months to poll panel decisions, though the Election Commission rejected these as standard operational queries.
Authorities enforced Section 163 of the BNSS, deploying over 5,000 personnel and closing 12 Delhi Metro stations to prevent large gatherings, while registering three FIRs following Friday's detention of nearly 700 protesters.
Elsewhere, activists from the Cockroach Janta Party staged a protest at Mumbai's Shivaji Park, while political leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress joined Delhi demonstrations to oppose the electoral roll revision process.
Student and youth groups including AISA warned of "massive mobilisation" on October 10 if demands remain unmet, asserting that recent detentions would not intimidate them from continuing their campaign.
