HAVANA (AP) — Havana woke up Thursday with nearly 80% electricity coverage, as experts said they had partially reconnected the National Energy System a day after a total blackout.
On Wednesday morning, a stop at the Antonio-Guiteras power plant, located in the centre of the island, caused the disconnection of the electrical system throughout the country.
Cuba announced the re-establishment of its electricity system after the national blackout, although much of the island is still without electricity.
The Guiteras' partial return, reported at 3:41 p.m., had presented itself as a momentary relief after the fifth massive blackout in less than a year.
