Pornhub Is Back for (some) Australians
Aylo said device-level age checks let the site return without requiring users to submit facial scans or ID.
On Wednesday, Pornhub restored access to its platform for Australian iOS users who confirmed their age through Apple's device-level verification process.
Aylo, the Montreal-based parent company, previously blocked Australia in March to protest Age-Restricted Material Codes, arguing mandated verification creates privacy risks and fails to protect minors.
Pornhub vice president of brand and community, Alex Kekesi, stated Apple 'set a benchmark' by enabling device-level child safety, allowing users to be 'served a standard adult user experience' without surrendering personal data.
This update applies only to iPhone and iPad users, leaving Android and desktop access restricted; eSafety encouraged a 'layered approach' to age assurance but stopped short of endorsing Aylo's method.
Aylo is now urging Google and Microsoft to implement similar device-level solutions globally, contending that standardized hardware protections are more effective than site-specific compliance measures.
The popular adult video website "Pornhub" has fully reopened in Australia, but is currently only available to adults using Apple devices and who have passed Apple's age verification process.
PARENT company Aylo has announced that it is re-enabling access to "eligible adult users in Australia" who have "verified their age through Apple's Australian age verification process".
