Popular Strictly star lands big job just weeks after 'upsetting' exit from BBC show
Karen Hauer will play dance teacher Mavis in Stepping Out after being one of five Strictly professionals not returning, the BBC said.
Following her recent departure from BBC Strictly, Karen Hauer has secured the role of Mavis in the upcoming stage production 'Stepping Out', a role she described as 'really close to my heart'.
The show's longest-serving female professional, Hauer, was one of five dancers whose contracts were not renewed for the 2026 series, a development sources described as 'upsetting'.
Staged at Eastbourne's Devonshire Park Theatre and touring Southend, Fareham, and Bromley from August 13 to 29, the play depicts amateur tap dancers preparing for a charity gala.
The BBC confirmed 15 professionals will return this autumn alongside new recruits, as the series undergoes a wider reinvention following host departures.
While Strictly faces changes following the departures of Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, Hauer is 'trying to remain positive about the future' as she transitions into stage work.
