Popular native doctor, Akwa Okuko sentenced to two years in prison, fined N60m
Mr. Chidozie Nwangwu pleaded guilty to charges including aiding kidnapping and money rituals and will serve 11 months after credit for 13 months served, court said.
- On Sunday, Justice Jude Obiorah sentenced Mr Chidozie Nwangwu, also known as Akwa Okuko, to two years in prison after he pleaded guilty and plea bargain, with fines waived for remorse.
- In February 2026, operatives of the Agunechemba Security outfit arrested the native doctor alongside Mr Okocha, also known as Onyeze Jesus, and Mr Ekene, also known as Eke Hit, over allegations including aiding and abetting kidnapping and money rituals.
- Because Agunechemba is not a correctional centre, the court credited 13 months already spent in detention and ordered the remaining time to be served in Awka Correctional Centre.
- The judge ordered the shrine in Oba destroyed, the defendant to denounce Okeite, be barred from practising it after release, and make a public statement cautioning youths as `ambassador of youth reorientation`.
- Under the law, persons practicing Okeite or ezenwanyi are liable to six years, while those claiming healing or wealth powers face two years, as per the criminal code and the law.
