Heated socks sold at Costco recalled after wearers report second-degree burns
The socks can burn feet during high-intensity activities, and Costco is refunding customers after 14 heat-related incidents, including 13 burns, were reported.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of nearly 208,000 pairs of 32 Degrees heated socks sold at Costco after 13 reports of first- and second-degree burns.
According to the recall notice, the socks pose an injury hazard "when the socks are worn during high-intensity activities that generate a combination of heat, excessive friction, moisture and pressure, the socks can pose an injury hazard, including burns."
Sold at Costco for between $30 and $46, the black socks came in three sizes. One reviewer wrote, "Used socks 1 time in ski boots at level 2 was ok. 2nd time using socks turned up to level 3. After 2 hrs got a 2nd degree burn on my ball of my left foot."
"Consumers should immediately stop using the heated socks and return them to Costco for a full refund," the recall notice states. Costco will directly notify Customers who purchased the affected products.
