Polish president vetoes bills that would have improved rights of same-sex couples

- Poland's Campaign Against Homophobia criticized the veto, calling the bills "merely a fragment of the first version of the document," while Katarzyna Kotula, the government official overseeing equality issues, said Nawrocki "turned his back on two million people living today in informal relationships."
- Despite securing support from Prime Minister Donald Tusk's governing coalition and the conservative PSL party, the veto stands because overturning it requires a three-fifths majority that nationalist opposition makes practically impossible to achieve.
- With Poland now recognizing same-sex marriages registered abroad due to a European Union top court ruling, Kotula plans to focus on ensuring these couples gain access to all available benefits despite the presidential veto.
