Police Sergeant Who Raped Two Women Jailed for 12 Years
He was convicted of eight sexual and physical offences against two women after a 17-year pattern of abuse, police said.
On Friday, former Police Scotland sergeant Campbell Petrie, 50, was sentenced to 12 years in prison at the High Court in Glasgow for rape and sexual offenses against two women committed between 2006 and 2023.
Petrie committed the offenses while serving as an officer, leading to his arrest and suspension from duty in December 2023; he retired from Police Scotland in December 2025.
Judge Alistair Watson noted Petrie caused 'deep and enduring psychological harm' to his victims and found his continued denial of responsibility 'disappointing' during sentencing.
The court imposed an extended sentence including three years of supervision upon release, indefinite non-harassment orders, and a requirement that Petrie remain 100 metres away from his victims.
Police Scotland is prioritizing officer investigations, with about 8,000 staff undergoing renewed vetting this year, as Detective Superintendent Adam Brown said the force will 'relentlessly pursue the perpetrators' of violence against women.
