Man arrested with 200 explosives outside D.C. mass traditionally attended by Supreme Court justices
Louis Geri was arrested with over 200 fully functional explosives including Molotov cocktails and threatened violence against Supreme Court justices and religious groups, police said.
- On October 5, Louis Geri, 41, of Vineland, New Jersey, was arrested outside the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle before the annual Red Mass after MPD officers engaged him at about 6 a.m.
- After being barred from the cathedral, Geri returned and set up a tent on the St. Matthew's Cathedral steps, officers saw him refusing to leave.
- Investigators recovered over 200 devices, some with nitromethane, and a nine-page manifesto 'Written Negotiations for the Avoidance of Destruction of Property via Detonation of Explosives,' Geri told police.
- The Red Mass was delayed for around 20 minutes before attendees entered through a side door, no Supreme Court justices attended this year, police secured the scene and a D.C. Superior Court judge ordered Geri held without bond.
- Federal authorities including the Joint Terrorism Task Force have joined the probe, with Louis Geri facing multiple counts including alleged manufacture of a weapon of mass destruction in furtherance of a hate crime.
