Homicide Squad Probes Grafton Boy’s Death as Parents Are Questioned
Police are investigating allegations the boy and another child were duct-taped into sleeping bags as specialists examine the home and a post-mortem is planned.
On Monday, a five-year-old boy was found dead inside a home in Grafton, NSW. Specialist police from the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad are investigating the death.
Detectives are investigating allegations that the boy and at least one other child were restrained in sleeping bags with duct tape to sleep. Police sources confirmed the tape was allegedly used as a blindfold at bedtime.
Police were called to the home last year following a concern for welfare, triggering a referral to the Department of Communities and Justice. The family had been on the radar of DCJ prior to the boy's death.
The boy's parents are being questioned by police but have not been arrested. Surviving children have been moved to live with relatives while DCJ assists with ongoing inquiries.
A post-mortem examination will be held to determine the child's cause of death, and the matter has been referred to the coroner. Detectives continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the children's treatment.
