Before being dismissed as a police officer, Rio had a record of violating the Indonesian National Police's professional code of ethics. He was tried by the Indonesian National Police Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) for cases of adultery and unregistered marriage.
Minister of Law and Human Rights Supratman Andi Agtas spoke out about the fact that a Brimobda member from the Aceh Regional Police, Bripda Muhammad Rio, had joined the Russian army after deserting. Supratman stated that if true, Rio's citizenship would automatically be lost.
Brigadier Muhammad Rio claimed to receive a monthly salary of RUB 210,000, or Rp 42 million, as a Russian soldier. Rio also holds the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Russian forces.
A Brimob officer from the Aceh Regional Police deserted and became a Russian mercenary in the war against Ukraine. A marine previously did the same.
