Beach driver with unrestrained child in car fined in safety blitz
- Queensland Police carried out Operation Sandstorm on Noosa North Shore beaches during the long holiday weekends of Easter and Labour Day to clamp down on unsafe driving.
- The blitz responded to frequent reckless behaviours on the beach, where road rules legally apply as the area is a gazetted road.
- Police carried out 2,356 random breath tests and 195 drug tests, issuing 272 fines for offences including unrestrained passengers and driving under the influence.
- A 38-year-old man from Mooloolaba was fined $1,209 and received four demerit points after allegedly operating a vehicle with a child younger than four years old sitting unsecured on a passenger’s lap.
- Acting Senior Sergeant Keith Preston described the operation as successful in preventing crashes and stressed that driving on beaches must follow road safety laws.

More than 270 fines have been handed out to beach drivers on Noosa North Shore over the Easter and Labour Day long weekends.
