Baby found dead in Sheffield 'died of stab wounds', police say, with seven arrested for murder
Seven suspects were initially arrested, and two have been bailed as detectives continue a murder probe into the newborn girl’s death.
South Yorkshire Police obtained a warrant to extend detention for five people arrested on suspicion of murder, allowing detectives to continue questioning them regarding a newborn baby girl's death in Sheffield.
Officers originally arrested seven people Sunday morning at a Holywell Heights property in Wincobank following reports of concern for the baby's safety; two individuals aged 26 and 37 have since been bailed.
A forensic post-mortem examination performed Tuesday determined the baby girl died as a result of stab wounds, police confirmed in statements released during the ongoing investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward, leading the investigation, stated his priority is securing justice for the baby girl and urged the public to avoid speculating about this tragic incident.
Detectives will maintain a presence in the Wincobank area conducting further enquiries, and police urge anyone with information to contact 101 or Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
