Parents of Southport killer were 'in denial' after previous school hockey stick attack, inquiry hears

Police flagged Rudakubana’s violent and threatening behavior five years before he fatally stabbed three children, but safeguarding actions were limited, inquiry records show.

  • On July 29, Axel Rudakubana, then aged 17, killed Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, and attempted to murder 10 others at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.
  • As a 13‑year‑old, Axel Rudakubana was excluded from Range High School after admitting he had taken a knife to school, and days after the Prevent referral he returned armed with a hockey stick and a kitchen knife.
  • Harrison recorded that Rudakubana had named people he wanted to kill and later assaulted another pupil, and PC Paul Harrison emailed his inspector `Nobody told me I would be dealing with terrorists!!!!!!!`.
  • Social services led a meeting that noted Axel Rudakubana had traits of autism spectrum disorder to a high level, while officials said no single agency had overall control of the risk assessment.
  • On Monday the inquiry heard counsel challenge officers about terrorism flags and Prevent interest, with Andrew Bramhall saying Prevent involvement suggested a terrorist leaning.
